Radio Setup Tour

Radio Setup Tour

Its article time again! This time we have a setup tour going over all of the equipment I use for radio over on TruckersFM.

Questions about setups are one of the most common questions for any DJ so i’m here to talk about mine lets start with a list of the core components.

Mixer

instead of using a normal USB audio interface, I have a USB mixer specifically the Behringer Xenyx QX1204USB. This mixer is small and easy to use when it comes time to start radio I press one button and it switches to input mode. The built-in compressor, EQ, and FX unit are also cool.

Microphone

Mic choice was an easy process just get whatever was popular and sounded good. right? looking back I may have got something different if I was looking specifically for a USB mic but as an XLR mic, the Blue Yeti Pro performs amazingly as a USB mic however its good but not great. The clipping issues even at low gain in USB mode make this mic hard to recommend for the average streamer.

DJ Controller

This is the best part of the setup. The pioneer XDJ-RX2 is a great controller that works stand-alone or with Rekordbox/VirtualDJ. It’s set out in a club standard style way so its familiar to anyone that has used a pioneer setup before. For me coming from a DDJ-WeGo2 that I had for the first few years at TruckersFM, it was a bit of a learning curve figuring out what everything does but hands down this is the best controller I have used so far.

VirtualDJ

This is my DJ software of choice, it’s not everyone’s favorite software but the level of customization the native support for Shoutcast make up for the few bugs it has. Ill talk more about this in an upcoming post.

Audio Topology

Above is the whole topology of my radio setup.
