Quick Tips – VirtualDJ Broadcast Tutorial
In a world where most DJs are no longer getting gigs its important to still maintain an audience that’s where VirtualDJ’s broadcast feature comes in.
Getting Started

Click on the settings icon to get started.

Once the settings menu is open, click on the broadcast tab.
Video Broadcast

VirtualDJ has many different options for streaming video. These range from Facebook to Youtube to twitch and more. VirtualDJ’s video broadcast option takes the video output of VirtualDJ and broadcasts it. so let’s get started!
To broadcast on Twitch grab you stream key from your channel settings on dashboard.twitch.tv. Make sure you’ve set your closest Twitch server in the URL section you can find this at stream.twitch.tv/ingests. When setting the quality of your broadcast, make sure to take into account your internet connection speeds, not your download but your upload. For Twitch you want a minimum of about 8-10mbps for 1080p but you can go lower if your stream still cuts out or buffers for your viewers check inspector.twitch.tv while streaming to diagnose problems. It is possible, even in the days of fast broadband that your upload is too slow for your internet connection.
I would only use Twitch as Youtube and Facebook are more aggressive on the copyright rules.
The process for Youtube and Facebook is much the same just add you stream key and hit broadcast. I can’t provide much more on Youtube and Facebook as that would turn quick tips into long tips.
Audio Broadcast

To start an audio broadcast is theoretically simple but it requires you to port forward 8000 and you need an ISP that doesn’t use Carrier-Grade NAT (you may need to check on this with your ISP). You also need to make sure your network isn’t behind a double NAT (two routers).
Port Forwarding
I can only provide a network tutorial for Unifi as that’s all I have but if you look around your router settings page you should be able to find similarly named settings.

To start click on Routing & Firewall

Then click on the port forwarding tab and click create new port forward rule.

Then name the rule VirtualDJ or something similar to identify it. Make sure Enabled is ticked, allow connections from Anywhere then Set the Port to 8000 and Set Forward port to 8000. Then set the Foward IP to your computer’s private IP address you can find this in your network settings in the windows control panel or open the command prompt type ipconfig and find your network adapter and its IP address. Set protocol to TCP as this is the connection type used. Then click save and you’re done.
Radio Server Broadcast

When broadcasting to a radio server you will need to get your credentials from your provider. usually, they should have everything except other fields usually that is left blank. After filling in your settings hit broadcast.
Podcast

Podcasts are a pretty good way to save mixes to start a podcast make sure you name it something and hit broadcast.
