Quick Tips – VirtualDJ Audio Tutorial

Time for a quick tutorial on how to setup and troubleshoot audio in VirtualDJ.

Lets Start!

Simple configuration

To start click on the settings icon in the top right.

Then if your not already there click on audio.

In the audio section, you have presets or you can create a completely custom setup. If you have a controller plug it in and click on the button that will show up under hardware (with your controller name and an image). To see a list of supported controllers Click Here.

That’s it for a basic setup but be aware some controllers don’t send a mic input to VirtualDJ and instead just mix it in on the controller output (which means no one can hear you on broadcast).

Advanced Configurations

If you have some other audio sources or want to output to another Soundcard you can add channels by hitting the + button under the inputs and outputs section there you can select from Master (mix), Headphones, Booth, any of the four decks, etc.

After you add a channel pick which output you want, in the second column select your output device this could be anything but usually, if you want your PC speakers it’s under Realtek… (WASAPI) but as it changes it may differ like mine (2- USB Audio CODEC (WASAPI)).

Note: Make sure your headphones are on chan 3 & 4.

If you want to output to something like OBS try using the Realtek digital out or another unused sound card and then add that as an input on the OBS end.

For inputs, you can select from things like microphones, timecode, and line in. If you’re using an audio interface there may be 2 inputs with the same name, always pick the one that has ASIO in the name as ASIO drivers are designed for low latency.

Note: If you’re getting too much delay or crackling try changing your ASIO sample rate by clicking on the ASIO setup button.

That’s it hopefully that gives you some basic knowledge on how to set up audio in VirtualDJ.
